OUR APPROACH

Listen first.
Grow together.

Our intended approach is rooted in relationships, shaped by individual strengths, and guided by the young person’s voice.

THE PRINCIPLES

A person comes before a plan.

01

Relationship-based support

Trust develops through consistent actions, respectful communication, and people who follow through. We aim to build relationships with patience rather than assumptions.

02

Trauma-informed practice

Experiences can affect a person’s sense of safety, relationships, and responses to stress. Our intended approach emphasizes predictability, choice, compassion, and reducing avoidable distress.

03

Strengths-based planning

A young person is more than their support needs. Interests, abilities, existing relationships, and personal goals help shape meaningful opportunities.

04

Youth voice & participation

Young people should be involved in decisions that affect their lives, in ways that fit their communication, understanding, circumstances, and rights.

05

Individualized support

Routines, communication, sensory environments, and practical expectations should reflect individual needs. Fair support may look different for different people.

06

Everyday learning

Skills grow through real experiences, encouragement, and the space to practise. Recognizing small steps can make progress feel achievable.

AN INTENDED PLANNING APPROACH

Progress is a conversation.

  1. 01

    Listen

Hear what matters to the young person.

  2. 02

    Understand

Explore strengths, preferences, and support needs.

  3. 03

    Plan together

    Identify appropriate, meaningful goals.

  4. 04

    Support

    Create consistent opportunities to participate.

  5. 05

    Review

    Reflect, listen again, and adjust.

OUR SAFETY COMMITMENT

Consistency is
a form of care.

Respectful boundaries and clear responsibilities are part of thoughtful support.

Our development priorities include safeguarding, appropriate staff preparation, clear reporting responsibilities, and ways to raise concerns. Staff should understand the scope of their role and when further help is needed.

Feedback, reflective practice, and collaboration with authorized supports will be important to improving the quality and continuity of care.
